Who is responsible for the footage
The person or business that owns and uses the CCTV system controls the footage, not RGB Tech Solutions. We design and install systems so they can be used responsibly, and we only access footage when you ask us to, for example to fix a fault.
Homes
- Point cameras at your own property: doors, drive and garden.
- If a camera captures images beyond your boundary, such as a street or a neighbour's garden, UK data protection law applies to you, and you must use the footage responsibly.
- Tell neighbours about cameras that may cover shared areas, and keep footage only as long as you need it.
Businesses
- Businesses using CCTV must follow UK GDPR. You may need to pay the data protection fee to the ICO.
- Put up clear signs saying CCTV is in use, who runs it and how to contact them.
- Keep recordings only as long as needed, store them securely, and limit who can view them.
- People can ask for a copy of footage of themselves. This is called a subject access request, and you usually have one month to respond.
How we help
- We plan camera positions to cover what you need without filming more than necessary.
- We set storage so footage is overwritten automatically after a sensible period.
- We set up separate viewer accounts so staff only see what they need.
